Paste a page's address to see the card that appears when someone shares it on X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Slack or Discord. The checker reads the page's Open Graph and Twitter Card tags, shows the preview, and lists what's missing or broken, so your launch link doesn't go out as a bare URL.

The tool itself is interactive: open [Open Graph checker](https://indielaunch.dev/tools/open-graph-checker) in a browser to use it.

## How to use it

1. Paste the address of the page you'll share, like your home page or launch page.
2. Press Check. We read the page the way a social network's link previewer does.
3. Fix anything marked red or amber, publish, then check again. Social networks cache cards, so their own preview may update a little later.

## What it checks

- og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, og:type and og:site_name.
- twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image, and what X falls back to without them.
- Whether the share image loads, its file type and size, and whether its address is absolute.
- The page's <title>, meta description and canonical link, which previews fall back to.

## FAQ

### What are Open Graph tags?

Open Graph tags are <meta> tags in a page's <head>, like og:title and og:image, that tell social networks and chat apps what to show when the page is shared. Without them, each app guesses from the page and often shows no image at all.

### What size should an og:image be?

1200 by 630 pixels is the size most networks crop to well, with the important part in the middle. Use PNG or JPEG, keep the file under about 5 MB (X's limit for card images), and give the full https address, not a relative path.

### Do I need Twitter Card tags if I have Open Graph tags?

X reads og:title, og:description and og:image when its own tags are missing, but it needs twitter:card to know which layout to use. Add <meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image"> to get the large image card.

### I fixed my tags but the old preview still shows. Why?

Social networks cache a link's card, sometimes for days. LinkedIn's Post Inspector and Facebook's Sharing Debugger let you ask for a fresh read. Adding a query string like ?v=2 to the link you share also makes most apps fetch it again.
