Sundown

Sundown is a Mac menu bar app for the hours after dark. It warms the display and dims it on a schedule you set, so the screen in front of you at night is not the same bright white it was at noon.

It goes much warmer than Night Shift allows, and it can take the screen darker than the backlight alone by lowering the gamma curve. There are one click presets in the menu bar, from Energy and Flow for the day to Reading, Evening, Relax and Midnight for late work, plus a custom setting. Media keys keep working, and every change ramps smoothly instead of snapping.

It is a native Swift app with no Electron runtime and no account to create. It runs on macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. An older build, Sundown Classic, covers macOS 12 and 13.

People who code, write or edit late tend to be the ones who notice it most, because that is when a cold white screen is hardest to look at.
