What Altern does for a launch

AI directories are where people go when they want a tool for a job and expect AI to do it. They're strict about fit: if AI is a side feature of your product, skip them. If it's the core, they're among the best-trafficked directories you can be in.

How to get listed on Altern

1. Make sure AI does the main job in your product; AI directories turn away products where it's a side feature.
2. Find Altern's submit page and check what it asks for and whether there's a fee or a queue.
3. Lead with the task, not the technology: "turns meeting recordings into notes" beats "AI-powered productivity platform".
4. Pick the category people would browse for that task, and state pricing honestly, including whether there's a free tier.
5. Add a short demo video or a GIF if Altern allows it. AI tools are judged on output, so show some.
6. Update the listing when you add features or change pricing; these directories are often used to compare tools side by side.

What to prepare before you submit

You'll paste the same things into every launch platform and directory, so write them once:

• A tagline under 60 characters that says what it does (see how to write a product tagline).
• A description under 160 characters, plus a longer one of two or three short paragraphs.
• A square logo (at least 256×256) and three or four screenshots at the same size.
• Your pricing in one line, including whether there's a free plan.
• A spreadsheet of where you submitted, the listing URL and whether the link is followed.

Will Altern accept my product?

If AI does the main job in it and it works for someone who signs up today, it has a good chance. Products that are mostly a wrapper with no clear use case, or that are still a waitlist, are often declined.

Is Altern worth it for an AI product?

Usually yes, if you're an AI-first product: people browse these directories with a task in mind and a willingness to try new tools. Measure it with a tagged link so you know what it sends.
