What is a hunter?

A hunter is the person who posts a product to a launch platform. It can be the maker or someone else who found the product and thought it deserved a page.

The word comes from Product Hunt, where well-known hunters once gave a launch a head start because their followers were notified. That advantage has mostly gone, and makers now usually post their own products.

When someone other than the maker posts a product, platforms typically let the maker claim the page afterwards to edit it and reply to comments.

Why it matters for a launch

You do not need a hunter to launch. If your product was hunted by someone else, claim the page: it is yours to improve, and an unclaimed page is a missed chance to talk to the people looking at it.
